I’m a bit obsessed with podcasts at the moment and one that I subscribe to is ‘Shared Experience’ from BBC Radio 4. Series 5 has just begun and the latest episode focuses on three parents discussing how they readjusted to life with a child with learning difficulties.
They discuss how diagnoses of autism and down’s syndrome led to a sense of grieving, devestation and also relief.
The parents share their experiences of challenging their own prejudices of entering a world they never thought they would encounter and how, as their children grew and developed, their sense of ‘differentness’ became more and more apparent.
